Al-Lisan Overview
One must have access to knowledge and thought in order
to absorb, analyze, or implement it. The Al-Lisan program
seeks to empower Muslims through access to traditional Islamic
sources in classical Arabic. There is a rich tradition of
Islamic thought and reflection that was built over the 1400
years of Islamic scholarship. This tradition must be looked
at and processed critically so that it might be developed
further. Al-Lisan students have already had basic and intermediate
Arabic training. In most cases they have had advanced training.
Al-Lisan can be considered an elite training that hones
the translation and comprehension skills of the student.
Selected texts are translated by students and then checked
by scholars. A discussion of the substance then ensues and
the process of accessing and analyzing texts is conveyed.
Texts have been chosen in various topics such as Theology,
Law, and Moral Character.
