Quote from ALIM Summer Student
"I
came into this program the lowest I've ever been, and I
leave it feeling honored, purified. I came into the program
arrogant, self-righteous, and I leave humbled by the soaring
heights of scholarship to which we must bend our heads in
wonder, and humbled by the sincerity, mercy, kindness and
strength of my Muslim brothers and sisters.
ALIM means to me a time of growth, repentance, and
remembrance of our true goal in this life. It means one
month of one summer of my life that turned me upside down,
inside out, and having to face who I really am and where
I really stand with Allah (SWT).
How were we not supposed to change? With the most brilliant
minds in the country, nurturing us throughout the day, and
a band of 50 struggling Muslim youth, praying salah with
the adhan ringing to the skies, making duah in the grass
with the fireflies floating, reading Quran in the depths
of the night, gathering for salatul fajr in the chilly morning
air before the dawn extinguishes the darkness. It is impossible
for a heart to be confronted with these things and not soften.
And not submit. It's impossible not to hope and pray and
resolve to become better servants of Allah.
This is what ALIM did to me. It allowed me, for the
first time, to understand what turning to Allah really means."
